Basement Finish Progress Update (Week 1)

This project is all about turning unused basement space into something the homeowner can actually enjoy and use for guests, plus boost resale value. The plan is a new bedroom, bathroom, and living room/rec room.

This week’s progress:

Prepped the space and got everything staged

Laid out the new floor plan

Moved in materials and started framing

Completed required fire blocking

Framed the bedroom and bathroom walls

Next week we keep building momentum with exterior living room walls, closets, and ceiling strapping.

If you’ve got a basement that’s just collecting storage, this is the kind of upgrade that adds real usable square footage.

There’s still a lot of confusion around what a “handyman” really is — and unfortunately, a lot of outdated stereotypes.

The truth is, today’s professional handyman operates a legitimate, licensed, and insured business, often with decades of experience across multiple trades.

We put together a short article explaining:
• why the old “chuck in a truck” image doesn’t apply anymore
• what homeowners should actually look for when hiring
• and why availability, insurance, and reputation matter more than price
