We are proud to share that the Stanislaus County Public Defender's Office recently participated in the Empowering Team Defense conference in Ontario!
By teaming up with the Office of the State Public Defender and sharing insights with leaders from across the state, we align our efforts and share learnings and best practices statewide.
This means a stronger, more robust defense system, elevated client-centered advocacy, and a more equitable approach to justice. Together, we are building a stronger safety net for our community.

At the SCPDO, your defense is supported by a collaborative team of dedicated professionals.
Your attorney leads your legal defense, our investigators help gather key facts, and our Client Support Specialists connect you and your family with resources and support.
Together, this team works to protect your rights and support you every step of the way.
What actually happens at your first court appearance?
An arraignment is simple but critical. The judge officially reads the charges, you state your name, and your Public Defender enters an initial plea - usually "not guilty" - to protect your rights while we request and review the prosecution's evidence.
We are with you from day one.
A past mistake should not prevent someone from moving forward.
Through our Clean Slate program, we help eligible community members navigate the record-clearing process and remove barriers to employment, housing, education, and opportunity.
Everyone deserves the chance to build a brighter future.

Sometimes, achieving stability requires help outside the courtroom. Our Client Support Specialists can assist with obtaining identification documents or connecting you with community resources. We support the whole person, not just the case.
