This month we will be having Valerie Throsen- CALSTART. Valerie Thorsen is the San Joaquin Valley Program Manager at CALSTART. She manages project work for the region and drives stakeholder and community engagement in advancing clean technologies while developing environmental justice and equity approaches. She is an air quality professional with 8 years of experience in regulatory analysis, permitting and compliance.

The City of Modesto is making improvements to our solid waste programs and collection as required by the State of California’s Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Strategy (Senate Bill 1383). Our survey will close on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 11:59 pm PST.
SB 1383 requires the California to:

-Reduce organic waste disposal 75% by 2025.
-Rescue at least 20% of currently disposed surplus edible food by 2025.

SB 1383 requires the City of Modesto to change the way it collects and processes residential and commercial garbage. These state mandated changes will result in a rate increase to pay for additional containers, sorting, and administration. There are different collection options that will impact cost and convenience, so we are seeking your feedback.
