Have you ever heard of a groundwater basin? 💧

A groundwater basin is basically a large underground area of soil, sand, and rock that holds water - kind of like a giant natural sponge hidden beneath the ground. Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (or “GSAs”) help manage that shared “sponge” so everyone in the surrounding area uses it responsibly.

That’s why Modesto works with regional partners through GSAs to monitor local groundwater levels and plan for long-term sustainability. These partnerships allow us to work closely with neighboring cities and counties to create the teamwork and collaboration it takes to protect and use this shared resource responsibly.
