Breathing Through
How often do you answer “I’m fine” without really thinking about it? 💛
For many of us, “How are you?” has become a greeting rather than a genuine check-in. We answer automatically, avoid burdening others, or worry about being vulnerable.
But part of supporting our mental health is learning to check in with ourselves honestly. Are we actually okay? Are we overwhelmed, stressed, exhausted, anxious, or struggling? Giving ourselves permission to acknowledge our feelings can help reduce shame and normalize that it’s okay not to be okay all the time.
When we answer authentically, we also create space for others to do the same. Honest conversations help break the stigma surrounding mental health and remind us that everyone needs support sometimes.
The next time someone asks how you’re doing, take a moment to check in with yourself first. You might be surprised by what you discover. ✨
How would you answer if you responded honestly today?
For preschool and school-aged children, changes in behavior can sometimes be the first sign that they’re struggling emotionally, socially, or developmentally. Changes in toileting, sleep patterns, emotional outbursts, aggression, shutting down, increased anxiety, or behavioral difficulties at school are all important signals to pay attention to.
Checking in with your child’s teacher can also help identify whether they’re noticing changes in the classroom or with peer relationships. Early support matters — and asking for help is never something to feel ashamed of. Reaching out early can help children feel understood, supported, and successful both at home and at school. 🌱✨
