The Cost of Cycle Time vs. Quality in Injection Molding.

Cycle time directly impacts part cost. Every second removed from the molding cycle increases machine utilization and lowers the cost per part. However, there is a point of diminishing returns by aggressively chasing the shortest possible cycle.

When a part is ejected before it has properly cooled and stabilized, several quality issues can appear.

Warpage: This is one of the most common consequences of overly aggressive cycle reduction.

Dimensional Instability: A part may measure correctly immediately after molding but drift out of tolerance hours later as residual heat dissipates.

Sink Marks: Reducing hold time or cooling time too aggressively can prevent adequate packing of thicker sections.

Stress Cracking: Parts ejected while still carrying excessive internal stress may crack later in service.

Cosmetic Defects: Excessive cycle reduction can contribute to aesthetic defects.

What Does JATCO, Incorporated, Do Differently?

We are a custom molder that has been injection molding in California since 1976. Our Team relentlessly validates cooling times, monitors process windows, employs statistical controls, analyzes melt flow and shrinkage behavior, maintains mold cooling systems, establishes repeatable process parameters, and optimizes rather than maximize machine output.

JATCO, Incorporated, has electronically monitored molding equipment to ensure stable cooling and process consistency to control warpage, shrinkage, and dimensional variation. Our robust quality control systems are designed to optimize production efficiency without sacrificing part performance.

Our Team stands ready to guide your next plastic injection molding opportunity to success. Check out our website to learn why we are an industry leader: www.jatco.com. You can also learn more about our services and capabilities by contacting Steven Ames, [email protected] or 209-985-2329.
