Now that you've decluttered, it's time to edit your furnishings. Staging your home to sell is different than decorating your home to live in! That huge sectional that fits the whole family on movie night might be crowding the room, and making it feel small to potential buyers. Dark bedroom furniture can have the same effect. I'm not suggesting you get all new furniture, but rather make small tweaks to lighten the space and make it feel larger.

1. Remove excess furniture or relocate to another room, where it's better suited.

2. Try a different layout. Sometimes you just need to rearrange furniture in the room to make it feel more open or balanced.

3. Lighten up dark furnishings. Nothing sucks the life out of your listing photos faster than dark, heavy furniture! Try to lighten up with pillows or decorative throws. If you have dark bedroom furniture, use white linens.
