"We are living in our own hell."
James "Weston" Higginbotham went missing during a trip to Japan and has not been heard from since May 29.
His parents are now joining the search for the 20-year-old Auburn University student — traveling to Japan to search the area where he was last spotted.
His phone signal was lost after he got off a train in Kyoto — an area known for hiking trails, and his family says the search is now urgent because he may have been emotionally distressed at the time of his disappearance.
Japanese police are escalating the search, designating dozens of additional officers, K-9 teams, and helicopters to scour the heavily wooded terrain near the station.
Weston's mother is pleading for compassion and asking people not to publicly share his location if he's spotted and send that information directly to the police.
