In 2019, a heartwarming story captured national attention when a young boy from Florida, who was a big fan of the University of Tennessee, wore a homemade UT t-shirt to his elementary school's "College Colors Day." Not owning any official UT gear, he designed his own shirt by attaching a piece of paper with a hand-drawn UT logo to an orange t-shirt.
Unfortunately, some classmates was made fun of his creative outfit, which left him upset. When his teacher shared the incident online, it quickly went viral, prompting an incredible response from the University of Tennessee. Not only did the university send him a large package of official UT merchandise to show their support, but they also turned his hand-drawn design into an official shirt. The response from the public was overwhelming, more than 16,000 shirts were sold, and the UT marching band even wore the design in solidarity. To top it all off, the university later announced that the boy would receive a four-year scholarship to attend the university.
