We are proud to celebrate our newest class of Transmission Pre-Apprentice Lineworker graduates at Bishop State Community College!

Each student has successfully completed a rigorous training program and earned industry-recognized credentials, including:

🚛 CDL Class A License
⚠️ OSHA 10 Certification
❤️ CPR Certification
🔌 Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) Certification

These graduates are now prepared to step into high-demand careers in the energy and utility industry, equipped with the skills, safety training, and professionalism needed to succeed.

🎉 Congratulations to Kalel Hernandez, Recipient of the 2026 John Burge Memorial Scholarship! 🎉

The Bishop State Workforce Development Department would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the John Burge family for their continued support of our Lineworker Program. Through their generosity, nearly $28,000 in scholarships has been awarded to deserving students, helping them achieve their career goals and build brighter futures.

John Burge, a dedicated Alabama Power lineworker and proud Marine Corps veteran, tragically lost his life in a vehicle accident in December 2018. Known for his strong work ethic, passion for the trade, and commitment to serving others, John’s legacy lives on through the John Burge Memorial Scholarship, established by his family and friends.

This year’s scholarship recipient, Kalel Hernandez, embodies the values John represented. Originally from Mobile, Kalel enlisted in the Army Reserve at age 17 and served six years as a diesel mechanic. He now proudly serves in the National Guard as a medic. As a husband and father of two boys, Kalel is pursuing a career as a lineworker to provide for his family while making a meaningful impact in his community.
