Extreme Sports for Veterans in Montana - Extreme Sports for Veterans in Montana | Xsports4vets Extreme Sports for Veterans is dedicated to introducing our nation’s heroes to the outdoors. We're a group of current conflict veterans help others.

While some may marvel at the sight of icicles, they can be very hazardous to the structure they're hanging from.
The ice dam that forms with the icicles is a frozen barrier that causes water to back up on the roof, rather than properly drain off.
The trapped water can find the smallest of cracks to seep through– potentially damaging the roof, insulation, ceilings, walls, and more!

The Fix:
While it may seem like the easiest solution is to break the dam with a hammer, that could lead to damaging the shingles.

Using a calcium chloride ice melter is actually the most effective way to melt the ice without harming the structure itself.
Soaking a rolled up towel, then placing it on top of the dam can effectively carve a path for the trapped water to escape.

**Do NOT use rock salt, as that can damage paint and metals.
