As conversations around automation continue to grow, Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison is placing a major bet on something that technology can’t replace—skilled hands and real-world expertise. With a $250 million commitment over the next decade, the company plans to train 250,000 workers in trades like electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry, addressing a gap that continues to widen across the country.

Ellison made it clear that while artificial intelligence can handle certain tasks, it cannot step into roles that require precision, experience, and physical skill. Fixing a roof, wiring a home, or building from the ground up demands more than automation—it requires people who understand the craft. His message reflects a growing realization that some of the most essential jobs remain deeply human.

This initiative arrives at a time when many industries are shifting rapidly, yet the demand for tradespeople continues to rise. By investing in training and development, Lowe’s is helping create pathways for individuals to step into stable, meaningful careers while also supporting the infrastructure that communities depend on every day.

Beyond workforce numbers, this effort speaks to a larger vision. It’s about strengthening communities, creating long-term opportunity, and recognizing the value of work that keeps homes, cities, and systems running. In a world changing fast, this move highlights something steady—the importance of skills that cannot be replaced.
