My first class BACK! 💎

This was such a special class I’ve been following .r for a while and have always looked up to her as a dancer and creative. So when I saw was hosting her and today I had to go. It felt like a sign and the right time to get back into training mode.

This class was a challenge in the best ways. I was in my head a lot and you know how people tell you don’t compare yourself to other people but instead look at like you against you. In my head it was definitely me against me but it was me pre and post injury and that’s just not a fair game to play.

Imma be honest I started getting really emotional and hard on myself and then Tacir said something “Remember this thing we do is supposed to be fun remember why you started” i immediately thought of a 8 year old baby Des taking her first hip hop class at the MLK center and I realized she would be so proud of me for coming this far. *This is when the waterworks began to form lol

I will never be the dancers I was before and that’s okay to grieve her but now I’m the dancer with so much more knowledge of her mind and my body. I care for myself so differently because the goal isnt proving and overextending myself it’s longevity & love for a craft that loved on me through every phase.

This was my second time walking runway, and my intention was simple: make a moment. Period. That’s the goal on the floor, in ballroom, in life.

To do that in a room full of legends and icons and to see them give me props that is a blessing I will never take lightly. When Thee icon .a.r.jackson stands for you while you’re pumping, you know you’re doing something right.

This week held a lot. Mixed emotions. Heavy realities. And still, the work of holding space for q***r Black joy, feminine joy. Last night, I got to drop into my body and embody exactly that to honor my lineage, show up for my people, and do the damn thing.

I pulled a card before walking this weekend. The Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It said: Let yourself be seen. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be complete.
You just have to be present.

So this is presence.
A living prayer.
A living altar.

Rest in Peace to the Voice of the DMV
Boom Balenciaga his presences was definitely felt in the room and I can only imagine how this resonating in his worldwide but especially in the DMV
