Founder's Journal: My Tiny Business Partners

People always tell me how well-behaved my girls are at events and meetings. In-fact my instructor through the Arboretum mentioned how they are well behaved distractions.

And honestly? I laugh a little inside.

Because while they're wonderful children, nobody sees the full story.
They don't see the snacks packed in my bag. The negotiations before we leave.
The promises of movie nights as a reward for doing the best they could.

The reminders. The encouragement. The deep breaths.

Recently, while sponsoring beverages at an event hosted by Mind the Crown, one of my daughters took off up the stairs so quickly that the organizer Willis grabbed her before she reached the top. Now from previous experiences this is the last thing I would have ever wanted to experienced again.

A little while later, my other daughter walked straight into a glass wall.

Then, during one of the speeches, they both decided it was time to sing. Not whisper. Sing. At full volume. I remember feeling tired.

Not because they were doing anything wrong, they were simply being the best versions of themselves as kids. But because I was trying so hard to be the perfect business owner and the perfect mother at the same time.

Later, we sat down and colored together. And something shifted. The pressure disappeared. The stress disappeared. For a few moments, I wasn't worrying about networking, sales, opportunities, or the next thing on my to-do list. Relief came from simply coloring with my daughters.

Lately I've been trying not to rely on technology to keep them occupied. What I'm discovering instead is that children don't always need entertainment. Sometimes they just need connection. And for adults to understand they have feelings too. A mess can be cleaned up within a few moments but the pride of a child can be tarnished for life if we don't think before we act.

The truth is, Lynnmonade wouldn't exist without these little girls.

They've attended meetings. Networking events. Vendor opportunities. Community gatherings. And countless business conversations. One of my mentors mentioned people won't remember me because of my simplicity. Yet I feel like most people will remember me because of them.

They may not realize it yet, but they're helping build this company too. The culture we are cultivating will sustain and be a guide for those who are afraid or holding back because of their childcare situation.

It's imperative that we realize kids can teach founder's too.
