As of this posting, in 2022 there have been 179 bills (according to the ACLU) introduced that are meant to restrict the rights of LGBTQIA+ folx across the country. Oftentimes the justification and reasoning behind these bills utilize the microaggressions that we talked about last week, that fundamentally undermine and undercut the LGBTQIA+ communities’ experiences and humanity. Many of these microaggressions call upon and reinforce harmful stereotypes about the q***r community that paint it as something that is abnormal, unnatural, or perverse.

Being legislated against for living authentically is so invalidating to a person’s humanity, and sets the precedent of being able to decide that a person shouldn’t have autonomy over their own body. The idea that your existence is up for debate is both mentally and physically damaging. We invite you to join us in taking the time to contact your local and state representatives to ask them to commit to fighting against anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation. If they don’t believe in basic human rights, register to vote if you’re eligible and help elect those that do.

Pride is a time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and be proud of living authentically. While you’ll definitely find us around town celebrating Pride, this past year has seen many attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community. From trans youth being bullied in an attempt to erase them to local and state governments attempting to silence q***r youth and adults from uttering simple words that validate our existence. Dozens of states have passed bills specifically to harm the q***r community, and that’s some seriously stressful s**t.

Deviant Minds & Infinite Ingredient have teamed up because a constant barrage of attacks is not only harmful to the community, but it can do some serious damage to our own mental and physical well being. Throughout Pride month, we’ll be learning how to recognize different microaggressions. We’ll also share things you can do to help relieve some of the stress, if at least for a moment.

We’re here, we’re q***r, and we won’t fu***ng disappear. Happy Pride!
