A Little Thought

Well folks, the scam artists are at it again in Webster Parish!
One of our clients, here at the COA, called this afternoon to tell me about a possible scam going around.

She received a call today concerning her Medicare. The caller stated that she needed to update so she would not lose her benefits. She hung up quickly because she knew not to give out personal information over the phone. She got the number of the person who called her. After a little research, I learned that the number had been spoofed. We called it back and the person answering said that it was the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Department, and after a couple of phone calls we found that it was not the Sheriff's Department at all, but a random number.

I then called the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office and gave them the information since she is a resident of Webster Parish. They are constantly dealing with these scams as well!

Number one - Social Security, Medicare nor Medicaid will call you asking for information, ever. unless you call them and they are returning your call. They do not initiate the call.

Number two - Never give out information over the phone, or anywhere, unless you personally know the individual you are speaking with, or you have directly contacted them concerning your information.

Number three - Scammers prey on seniors! Please be aware and alert. If it seems too good to be true....it usually is.
If they ask questions concerning your personal information, they are after much more than your information. Just hang up.

Thanks to our client for bringing this to our attention!
