This will be our last event of our season and so it will be one for the books!

Memorial day:
Somewhere along the way, we turned it into the unofficial beginning of summer, into sales, cookouts, and crowded beaches, into people wishing each other a "happy" Memorial Day as though grief is meant to be celebratory. But this holiday was never meant to feel good. It is the accounting we avoid the rest of the year - the list of names no one can finish reading without their voice cracking. It asks us to sit with something deeply uncomfortable: that people were sent, many did not come back, and the world kept moving anyway. Their absence does not soften with time, rather it hardens into ordinary life and families forced to rearrange themselves around a permanent missing piece. Maybe that is the part we avoid saying out loud - remembrance was never the easy comfort of waving flags in warm weather and calling it gratitude. It is the tension between what was promised and what was taken, between the language of honor and the reality of loss, which does not care about ceremony, flag displays, or long weekends. Sacrifice does not end when the body is buried. It echoes forward in everyone who has to keep living in a country that has moved on.
