How to Use Pad: Tattle Pad was created to cut down on children tattling unnecessarily, assist children in self problem solving skills and development of imaginative writing/writing skills. Tattle Pad should be placed in a special place and children are instructed on how to use it. When a child comes to adult to tattle the child is quickly stopped and reminded of the rules: “Is this an Emergency? If not, and you can’t solve it yourself and need an adult to solve it for you, and “you just have to tell it, write it down.”
If the child takes the initiative to write it down, than the child is saying they really want your help in solving the problem. If the writings of the child can’t be read by the adult, the adult should ask the child to read aloud what has been written. While the child is reading what is written, the adult should write on the note what the child has stated and also date the note, thereby preserving evidence of child’s writing development skills. Then, solve the problem for the child.
By using the Tattle Pad our classroom and home has cut down tattling by 90% and we hear and see children solving their own problems and writing skills being practiced willingly when they what help. It’s wonderful.
