š Meet the Founders: Todd š
Todd is a Co-Founder of Almost Home Cat Rescue MKE and currently serves as Operations Managerāwhile also wearing just about every volunteer hat imaginable. From maintenance and cleaning to fundraising events and cat transport, Todd helps keep the rescue running day in and day out.
He began volunteering in 2019 at another Milwaukee-based rescue before co-founding AHCR in 2021 alongside a group of like-minded volunteers who wanted to build something even betterāfor both cats and the community.
Outside of the rescue, Todd has spent an incredible 40 years in the commercial skylight industry and currently works as a Renovation Manager. But his passion for rescue started in an unexpected wayāhe wasnāt always a ācat person.ā That changed when he and his family found a kitten named Molly in their backyard. The rest is history.
At AHCR, Todd truly does it allācleaning, restocking, managing building operations, coordinating with property management, monitoring temperatures, fixing anything that breaks, and making sure the space stays safe and comfortable for the cats. A typical shift might include litter box duty, vacuuming, checking supplies, and troubleshooting heating or plumbing issues.
His favorite part of rescue? The people and the cats. Todd loves getting to know the diverse volunteer team, meeting incredible cats, and seeing adopters find their perfect match. The biggest challenge is ongoing fundraisingābecause keeping the doors open takes constant effort.
One moment that stands out to him is watching the transformation of the spaceāfrom a former hair salon into the welcoming, home-like environment it is today. Heās also especially proud of AHCR being voted #2 Best Animal Shelter of 2025 in Shepherd Expressā Best of the Best.
Todd has experienced both the highs and the heartbreak of rescue. From celebrating medical successes like FIP survivors Kenji and Ronnie, to grieving the loss of fragile kittens despite best effortsāthose moments reinforce how important this work is and how much the team relies on each other.
He believes one of the biggest misconceptions is that shelters are funded and have unlimited resourcesāwhen in reality, rescues like AHCR rely entirely on volunteers, donations, and community support.
š¬ āAdopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. When people donāt hold up their end, the animals are the ones who suffer.ā
Todd continues to show up because this work gives him purposeāand because even small efforts can make a big difference in a catās life.
