Proof of alien life among us.
Lichen grows wherever there is ample moisture and clean air. Fortunately, there are ample specimens around Green Lane Park. It covers trees, rocks, and fences. Lichen was considered to be a type of fungus until recently when it was discovered that it is a composite organism like the Man-o-war Jellyfish... a single organism made up of multiple independent fungi in a mutualistic relationship.

This is the British Soldier Lichen, cladonia cristatella sending up its red spores for the spring. We've never witnessed this before and they're just beautiful.

Isabelle as painted by Rembrandt... or as photographed by Mike at the Franklin Institute. It's hard to tell. The image makes her look holy, but she was playing with a make-your-own-tornado exhibit and looking around at the louvers that allowed her to control the airflow. Tomato/Tomahto.

Vacations are a great time to play with new things and capture the personality and feelings of being somewhere new.

There's something missing from these photos so far: the cells. We did finally get there after lunch. The prison once held 1,100 inmates in medium security which always struck me as pretty lame if you're a criminal. High security meant you were trouble. Low security meant you are barely a criminal, but medium? How insulting. The overwhelming stench of mildew covered everything... literally. In May this is bad, by August it will be an 1,100 person petri dish. Thank God for respirators. Oddly, there is something familiar about this place.
