Luis would have been 90 today. He had an astonishing life, for a boy born during the Depression, with no high school diploma and few prospects. He started playing the cello at 16 and with his determined focus and indescribable progression, a letter of introduction from a teacher and clothes donated by a friend's father, he managed to get to France to audition for Pablo Casals a little over a year later. Casals took him on as his only scholarship student. That was the start of a miraculous life. Happy Birthday Louie!
