Steven Scott “Steve” Byrd, age 59, of Milan, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Steve was born on March 6, 1967, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Clifton and Barbara (Shaw) Byrd. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1985 before beginning a career at Ford Motor Company, where he dedicated 28 years of service.

Steve was the kind of person who made life a little lighter for everyone around him. He had a quick wit, an unforgettable sense of humor, and a gift for making people smile when they needed it most. Whether he was sharing a joke, telling a story, or simply spending time with those he loved, Steve’s presence brought comfort and laughter to family and friends alike.

He enjoyed cheering on Michigan football, gathering around a good home-cooked meal, and making memories with the people who meant the most to him. Above all, Steve treasured time with his family and friends and never took those moments for granted.

A faithful member of Literal Life Church in Petersburg, Steve’s faith was an important part of his life and the way he cared for others.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Barbara Byrd; his children, Steven Byrd, Samantha Byrd; Laura Byrd; his sisters, Kim (Kris) Rutledge and Becky (Mike) Cole; a niece, nephews, a great niece and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Byrd.

Though Steve’s time with us was far too short, the laughter he shared, the kindness he showed, and the joy he brought into the lives of others will continue to be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply loved and forever missed.

Visitation will be held at Ochalek Funeral Home, Milan on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 3:00pm until time of funeral service beginning at 4:00pm. Burial will be at Marble Park Cemetery in Milan.
