It is sad to see such an amazing building lost to fire. This was a very nice building and the campground was great. I hope they can rebuild on the foundation and save the stone walls.
This has me shifting my mindset. Why? BECAUSE IT'S STILL THERE.
I'm going to choose to see the positive.
1. Look at the chairs on the veranda. Still there, like they're waiting for the next person who will never forget the view they provide.
2. The stone walls and foundation. Battered, beaten...and still there. Can they be saved? Can they be a living blueprint for what comes next? I don't have the answer, but I'm optimistic.
3. The rest of it? It looks bad, but there is nothing that can't and won't be rebuilt.
I look at this photo and I see strength and resilience.
I see the rustic charm that can't be replaced, ready for its next chapter.
Grand Canyon Lodge WILL be back, with a few more battle scars and stories to tell.
It will be back.
And what a glorious day that will be. ❤️
PS: Thanks to Derek Jacoby for what will probably become the single most iconic image of this episode.
