Elmer Tyrone Ridley
1947 - 2015

Elmer Tyrone Ridley, was the second son of George and Theresa Ridley and one of the four founding brothers of Flex Four Investments, LLC. He was the Vice-President of Acquisitions for the company where his role included oversight of research and negotiation and purchase of prospective deals.

Born in Severn, North Carolina, Tyrone was raised from childhood as a believer who embraced service to God, his family and his community. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Childhood friends affectionately called him “Fudd”. As he grew professionally, he became known as E.T. He was a graduate of Armstrong High School, Class of 1965 in Richmond, VA and attended Virginia Union University.

Throughout his lifetime, Tyrone embraced life and what it had to offer. Whether it was fishing, basketball or rooting for his Washington Redskins or the University of Virginia football teams, he made sure he soaked up every minute of enjoyment he could. Additionally, Ty loved looking good and never passed on an opportunity to show off his style of dress, especially when it came to a well-made three piece or double-breasted suit. He often received many compliments for his sense of style, but moreover for his devotion and generosity to God and his family. This led to his role as a volunteer with the Richmond Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. While managing his own nine-year battle with the disease, he was a fierce advocate and leader within the group empowering him to look past his trial to fully participate, organize and speak at many events for Pan Can in and around the Richmond area. He also led a state delegation on Capitol Hill advocating for more funding for Pancreatic Cancer research.

The relationships Tyrone built was not limited to just his inner circle of friends and family. His impact was felt throughout his local community and beyond to even those who only knew of him by name. Biographical Summary for Emmett L. Ridley, Ed.D.

Dr. Emmett L. Ridley is an Associate Professor of Education at Virginia State University (VSU) who teaches two graduate courses in educational research and serves as student advisor and coordinator of the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS) degree program. Having been employed at VSU in two separate instances for a total of more than 32 years, previously he was responsible for coordinating, managing, and supporting aspects of the University's institutional effectiveness functions (planning, evaluation, student assessment, accreditation, and institutional research). These functions are designed to promote and facilitate innovation and improvement; measure student academic performance, achievement, and preparation; determine the effectiveness of the University’s programs, services, and operations; and ensure the dissemination of institutional data and information.

Dr. Ridley has held the positions of public-school teacher, college professor, research and evaluation analyst, and university administrator. Also, he has served as a volunteer, advisor, and consultant to public schools, higher education institutions, and non-profit organizations in the areas of survey research, strategic planning, evaluation, assessment, and institutional effectiveness. Currently, he serves and Chairman of the Board of Managements of the Petersburg Family YMCA. He holds the Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Union University, the Master of Education degree from Virginia State University, and the Doctor of Education degree from the University of Virginia.

His hobbies and interests include fishing, travel, reading and research, investing and cooking that promotes health and wellness.
