Late last night, we got an urgent message from a fellow rescuer about a kitten in desperate need. The description was grim: the kitten was barely moving, almost lifeless. We dropped everything and raced out to see if there was anything we could do.

What we found broke our hearts. The tiny kitten—who we’ve since named Teddy Roosevelt—lay on his side, his little body limp and cold. We rushed him straight to the vet, not knowing if he’d even make it through the drive.

At the clinic, the team immediately started running tests. Teddy’s bloodwork showed severe anemia, though his white blood cell count was normal. Then we discovered a large abscess on the top of his head. The vet drained and cleaned it. We’re treating Teddy for a possible brain infection, giving him Clindamycin for the abscess and Keppra in case of seizures.

Despite everything, Teddy is fighting. He’s eating a little on his own and gets extra feedings by syringe. Right now, he’s being fostered by our medical director, with a skilled team on call around the clock. His condition is still very fragile—every hour is uncertain, and we’re taking it moment by moment.

We’re giving Teddy everything we’ve got. If you feel moved to help, your support would mean the world to us—and to Teddy.

There isn’t much to say about Nala because, honestly, not much has changed. She’s still terrified—she flattens herself to the floor whenever I get too close, as if she could melt into it and just disappear. I did manage to find a wet food she likes, though. She eats the whole can, which feels like one tiny win in a sea of worry.

Lately, she’s started meowing softly in the middle of the night. Sometimes, for a moment, she seems a little less tense, like maybe she’s starting to believe she’s safe. I can talk to her, and she’ll look back, but if I even think about reaching out, she just panics—pancakes again, as flat and silent as she can make herself.

So I wait. I let her set the pace. She’ll come to me for comfort when she’s ready, if she ever is. Until then, I’ll keep feeding her, keep talking to her, and hope that, one day, she’ll trust me enough not to run.

Meet RockEm SockEm Robot and Bop It!—two little guys with names as big as their personalities! These brothers are a blast when they’re awake, zooming around after their favorite toys, scaling the cat trees and making every day feel like a party. When they crash, though, they’re all about cozy cuddles and contentedly nursing on anything soft—a shirt, blanket, or the fluffiest cat bed they can find.

They’re total social butterflies, happy to make friends with gentle kids, other cats, and even dogs. Ideally, they’d love to find homes where there’s another playful buddy waiting for them—or, better yet, to be adopted as a pair if you don’t already have a furry sidekick or two at home.

If you’re looking for a little chaos, a lot of love, and endless entertainment, these boys are ready to make your family complete. JLRescue.org

UPDATE 6/15 @1:26AM:
This is not the update we wanted to share, but we made the decision to humanely euthanize Butter. The ER vet ran bloodwork which showed really elevated WBC, low RBC and very low kidney functions. During the 2.5 hours at the vet Butter started to decline rapidly and our medical director and the ER vet discussed different options. Butter would have needed days of hospitalization and sadly we didn't think he would make it through the night. We decided it was in his best interest to euthanize him and not let him suffer any longer. Unfortunately bloodwork didn't give a definitive answer as what made him crash so quickly but what's important is now he is free of any pain and suffering! Thank you to everyone who donated to his bill!

EMERGENCY DONATIONS NEEDED!

Our medical director is currently on her way to the ER vet with one of our kittens Butter. Butter spiked a 107 temperature and has become lethargic. He has been in care for almost 3 weeks now. We were not expecting him to go downhill out of no where. We could really use help with donations for his ER trip. Our medical director will update when we have more information!
