Sandwich eaters!! It’s been a while! Lots has been going on the past few months but it’s time to get back and review some sandwiches! And I have found a great sandwich place to jump back in with. A little place called Krauszers.

I have driven by this store at least two hundred times over the years. It’s on route 79 in Durham CT. Driving by it so many times I never thought of it as a place to get a sandwich. Boy have I been missing out. I recently had someone suggest getting lunch there, and I ordered a basic roast beef and cheese. The roast beef was plentiful, cooked perfectly medium rare, on an amazing hard roll. Today’s choice was called a “Some Like it hot”. Fresh corned beef with Swiss cheese and spicy mustard. Simple, right? But so complex. The warm thinly sliced corned beef, the melted Swiss cheese, and the grainy spicy mustard combine to make a fantastically flavorful sandwich. While we were waiting, a gentleman came in and recommended several other sandwiches, and the master behind the counter, Sue, told us about their breakfast sandwich creations which they make different every weekend.

So if you ever find yourself cruising down route 79 in Durham and want a GREAT sandwich, stop in this little place called Krauserzs.

Hello Sandwich eaters!

What a better way to spend a rainy Saturday than to go in search of a good sandwich! My daughter Victoria and I did just that the other day. I was reading a facebook post about the best sandwiches in CT(which I disagree with), and people were commenting with their favorite sandwich places. (A great resource for future visits). Based on one of these recommendations, we tried this little place called Claudia’s.

Claudia’s is located on Farmington avenue in Farmington CT. It is easy to find as it is right at the driving range. It has several tables if you want to eat there, and a friendly staff. It was pretty busy when we were there. Today’s choice for me was the eggplant parmigiana sandwich. It came on an eight inch grinder roll, with several layers of fried eggplant, roasted red peppers, and provolone cheese. It was toasted nicely. The roll was good (not great), but it worked well with the combination of ingredients. The eggplant was really good, and they are very generous with the amount they put on it. My only complaint,(my daughter said the same thing about her sandwich, a chicken parmigiana), was that there was no sauce on it. Mine had a little, but hers had none. She said it really took away from the flavor of the sandwich. Maybe they were low on sauce. Who knows? Overall, mine was pretty good.

So if you ever find yourself traveling down Farmington avenue in Farmington CT, before you hit a bucket of balls, check out this little place called Claudia’s and see for yourself!!

Happy Friday sandwich lovers, and Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the men and women who served so that we can can enjoy our way of life!!

So work today brings me to one of my favorite cities, Portland Maine. There are so many great places to get a sandwich here, but today’s choice is a little place called OHNO.

I’m not even really sure how I stumbled upon this place, except that is pretty close to the hospital where I was working. But I’m glad I did. They have many choices for either breakfast or lunch sandwiches, but In keeping with the theme of the week, I chose a breakfast sandwich. My choice was a #1, which is maple glazed prosciutto, Vermont cheddar cheese, egg and tabasco. Straight forward, but so complex. The flavor of the maple glazed prosciutto stood out against the sharp cheddar cheese. The sprinkle of tabasco gave it just enough kick to pull it all together. The bagel it came on was fresh and toasty. The place has a really cool, welcoming vibe. The workers even recommended other sandwich places!

So if you ever find yourself in Portland Maine, and want to try a great sandwich, stop by this little place called OHNO.

Welcome to the weekend!!

And what an awesome day it is! 75 degrees here in Connecticut. I’ll take it! After all the excitement of the past week, and national sandwich day, it got me thinking about different types of sandwiches, and what people like.

As you all know, my #1 priority in a sandwich is the bread. But what about what goes in between the bread? Of the thousands of combinations, what do people prefer? My brother-in-laws favorite sandwich is beef tongue. My father-in-law loves liverwurst with a slice of onion and mustard. My wife can’t resist a good chicken salad on rye. There are SO MANY combinations and choices.

So I am curious. What are your favorite type of sandwiches? And your favorite little place to get them? Let me know!!

Enjoy this weather!!
