The reason you must Keep going!
Why I Still Compete
Competition is not about medals for me.
Of course, personal achievement is rewarding, but that’s not what keeps me coming back.
I compete because it gives me a goal. A reason to train, stay healthy, build discipline, and maintain good habits. The pressure and excitement of competition create an environment that pushes me to become better—not just as an athlete, but as a person.
I also compete because my students compete.
I want to experience the same nerves, challenges, victories, and disappointments they face. As an instructor, I believe I should lead from the front, not from the sidelines.
At the recent East Open, I earned 3rd place. While it wasn’t the result I was hoping for, it was a valuable reminder to stay humble, let go of my ego, and continue learning.
That’s what competition does.
It teaches gratitude when you win and humility when you don’t.
So no, I don’t compete for medals.
I compete to stay healthy.
I compete to keep growing.
And I compete to live the lessons I teach every day.
