📣 ACQUISITION ALERT — Nina Surel Receives Inaugural Acquisition by Oolite Arts’ SHE Collective

We are delighted to announce that Nina Surel’s diptych, I Hear a Cooing and Free Bird, I Can Swerve and I Can Swoop, has been acquired by Oolite Arts and the SHE Collective.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The acquisition marks a significant milestone for both the artist and the SHE Collective, whose long-term vision is to build a collection that will ultimately be donated to a museum. The diptych will be presented during the VIP & Donor Hour of Sites of the Self, curated by René Morales, at Oolite Arts on July 8.

Founded to advance the careers of Oolite Arts alumni while fostering dialogue and engagement among its members, the SHE Collective selected Surel’s work through a member-led voting process. Receiving the highest number of votes, the diptych becomes one of the Collective’s inaugural acquisitions, underscoring its commitment to championing the work of Oolite Arts alumni and supporting their long-term careers.

🥂 The artwork will be presented during the VIP & Donor Hour for Oolite’s Sites of the Self, opening on July 8, 6-9 pm.

“Close to Home” opens Saturday, June 6, at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale with a Members Preview Reception from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. featuring artists whose work reflects intimacy, identity, memory and personal connection.

Bringing together 20 South Florida artists, the exhibition explores how relationships, memory and personal experiences shape contemporary art.

Admission to the reception is free for Museum members.

The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation (New York, NY) announces the selection of 20 artists to receive its 49th annual Individual Support Grants. A panel of four independent jurors reviewed applications submitted to the Foundation by 850 artists from 45 countries. Each of the following visual artists was chosen to receive an award of $25,000.

“Miami-based Spinello Projects presented a sentimental, hyperrealistic sequence of narrative-driven paintings by Puerto Rican artist Esai Alfredo, isolating delicate moments of human connection and emotional exchange against the infinity of the night horizon. Expanding on his ongoing exploration of memory, belonging and q***r identity, these atmospheric paintings were inspired in part by the closing scene of Wicked, in which two protagonists reflect on the lasting impact of their bond before parting. The series is also a poetic revisitation of the artist’s own experience of migration between Puerto Rico and the United States, which was shaped by the rhythms of connection and farewell, distance and displacement, as that of an entire generation that grew up within today’s global mobility.
