Someone said in another Free Grace blog, "This debate is a perfect example in my mind of how we complicate things in Scripture. I learned many years ago that the gold standard in Bible interpretation was accurate exegesis. That is not true! The Bible can be clearly and accurately understood by anyone who studies it the way it is written, by comparing Scripture with Scripture. On this topic at hand I have watched FG men do the same torturous work on the Kingdom of the Heavens as the Lordship folks."

My response:

SURE — All of us that have labored for years in formal biblical studies have wasted our time and money, as do those who are currently doing likewise in seminary, when all along we could have just opened the Bible and "presto!" Or as Bullwinkle would say to Rocky, "Rocky watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat." Rocky, "Again . . . ." Bullwinkle, "Presto!" — A Lion comes out. Bullwinkle responds, "I don't know my own strength."

Some things are simple but not simplistic, like how to attain eternal life, but others are not and demand much more of a command on numerous disciples of hermeneutics and the like. Folks that I hear say what you say, and this I mean w/no disrespect or ill will intent, are really ignorant of what's involved in exegesis.

If today's detectives have a hard time reenacting a crime scene in order to interpret all of the details and the evidence to conclude who did the crime, a biblical interpreter is likewise a detective that even has a much harder time to locate the meaning of a text that was written in a different language, culture, history, literary genre, idioms, and in the process bridge a 2 to 4 thousand-years gap. A contemporary detective knows that the longer it takes to secure the evidence once the crime has occurred the harder it is to interpret it. Now imagine how and what a contemporary theologian feels and what ground he's on when trying to interpret the meaning of a text when the evidence is 2 to 4 thousand years apart and needing a whole set of other principles foreign to him in order to understand.
