On June 14, 1917, the ground breaking for the Johnson Apartments took place.

The Miami Metropolis reported that the Johnson Hotel Apartments would become the largest apartment building in Miami upon its completion.

The complex officially opened at 227 NE Second Avenue (today's address scheme), on December 28 of the same year.

Attached is a postcard of the apartment complex in the 1920s. The structure stood into the 2010s as seen in the second photo taken in 2012, courtesy of Larry Shane.

The building was razed in 2014, as seen in the third photo courtesy of Phillip Pessar, and the property was redeveloped into the Yotel Miami which opened in 2022.
