The history of psychiatric technicians and the institutionalization of those deemed mentally ill are intertwined. The first asylums were used to socially exclude people who were deemed "unfit" for society and were commonly known by a variety of offensive names.

📚British explorers in the far East noted that mentally ill people were treated humanely in the Islamic world as early as 872 A.D., but it took centuries for this philosophy to catch on in Europe and North America.

📚By the 1940s, many treatments focused on rehabilitating the mentally ill to make them fit for life outside of any institution, and many different therapeutic programs for integration were developed. As time progressed, the aim became to destigmatize mental illness and deinstitutionalize patients so they would not feel detached from the rest of society.

Psychiatric technicians are mental-health technicians who work with people suffering from the whole gamut of mental health issues — from neurological illnesses and diseases to psychological disorders and developmental disabilities.

Their jobs can range from monitoring the physical and emotional well-being of patients to assisting them with their daily routines and monitoring their medication and personal hygiene.

Happy National Psychiatric Technician Appreciation Day!

You are the one who makes an effort, not someone else: no one will make an effort for you. It is critical to block people out throughout a training cycle to have a productive training session. Concentrate on the job during the session, and don't let anything distract you.
