2026 HURRICANE SEASON FORECAST: NOAA has officially announced their prediction for the upcoming Atlantic Hurricane Season. As expected, odds lean toward a below-average season (El Nino playing a large role). 8-14 named storms, 3-6 becoming hurricanes (1-3 becoming major).

It is important to remember this forecast does NOT showcase the impacts we could experience. While a below-average season is good news, it only takes one storm to cause destruction. We'll continue to take every threat seriously and keep you informed every day through hurricane season on CBS Miami.

WILDFIRE UPDATE: According to the Florida Forest Service, the Max Road Fire just west of US-27 in Western Broward County has burned 7,000 acres & is at 40% containment. Another fire is ongoing closer to Homestead & has burned 300 acres (30% contained).

Smoke from the Max Road Road Fire continues to move further into the Everglades, bringing no impacts to the metro in Broward or Dade. However, slightly reduced air quality is ongoing in Southern Miami-Dade due to the fire near Homestead. CBS Miami
