Juneteenth is not only a reflection on the past…

It is a reminder of how fragile truth can be when it is not protected.

We live in a time where what gets remembered is increasingly shaped by what is allowed to be said. So we do what our communities have always done.
We keep record, ✍🏾
we pass it forward,
we make sure nothing important gets lost in the silence.

In birth work, we understand this in a very real way. Stories carry information that systems miss. What stories should not be repeated and which ones must be honored. Juneteenth holds a similar truth.

Some histories survive not because they were preserved by institutions, but because people refused to let them disappear.

That is how truth stays with us. ✊🏾
