I have my own confession- I stole this saying from one of my MOMS Club members named Stephanie. Her name has not been hidden to protect her identity ๐คฉ๐คฉ๐คฉ
Stephanie has 2 boys and they often have friends over to play at her house. She has the usual pantry full of "let me not be the lame house" packaged snacks ๐ฟ๐ฅจ๐.
A few weeks ago her kids had friends over and they were playing video games ๐ฎ. Stephanie went to her kitchen, chopped up a bunch of multicolored raw vegetables- carrots ๐ฅ, peppers ๐ถ, & cucumbers ๐ฅ and placed them on a platter in front of where her kids and their friends were playing. Wait it gets betterโฆ
Now here is the GENIUS part. Stephanie went, delivered the food, turned around, walked away and said....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ๐๐๐๐๐๐!!!!!!
She didn't say
๐๐ผ "hey kids here's a snack for you"or
๐๐ผ"I cut up some healthy veggies for you all to eat" or even
๐๐ผโif you eat these then you can have something from the fun pantry"
She said NOTHING.
30 mins later Stephanie came back to the TV room to find the plate EMPTY.
Can you guess what she said? Once again Stephanie said NOTHING!!!!
Not "wow guys I'm so proud of you for eating these"or "hey did you like the veggies I cut up"" ...NADA.
So the theory is this- if you say NOTHING you are taking away your kids' power to accept or reject what you are giving them, there is no discussion positive or negative, it's just food and it's just there. No tantrum if you don't want to eat it and no party if you do.
I told you, GENIUS ๐ค. The next time your kids have friends over I challenge you to channel your inner Stephanie, cut up some veggies or fruit, etc and say NOTHING.

Shhh ๐ I used to do this on the sneak.
When my kids weren't looking I would take the goody bags they got at a birthday party, throw away the candy and keep the chocolate and toys.
To me candy ๐ญ has absolutely no value and whatever joy it may bring is ofset by the potential risk of cavities ๐ฆท and spike in blood sugar ๐ so it just does not make sense for me โโโ
They never noticed, or if they did I would play dumb, distract them and they would forget about it 2 seconds later.
As they got older I would explain to them why I don't like candy and why I would like them to filter out the goody bag or Halloween candy or whatever.
Now that they are "older" at 9 and 11 years old they do this practice themselves without me even asking, and Emilia is on board to do it as well. ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
This is part of what I like to call
๐คฉ Flexibility with Boundaries ๐คฉ
โYes you are welcome to enjoy the treats in your goody bag, but let's eliminate the candy first. โ

FAKE NEWS โโโ
This may sound weird ๐ฎ but I have heard this statement more times than I care to share.
Plant based meals are a little bit more accepted now, but a few years ago the majority of the population was a little more judgemental of vegetarian options ๐ฅ๐๐ฝ. They were considered "not as good as meat ๐ฅฉ ", when in fact they are oftentimes much more nutritious than their four legged counterparts ๐.
Here's a list of my favorite plant based proteins and their nutritional breakdown. Other than their protein content, I want you to notice the amount of fiber they all have- something only found in plants, not in animals ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ.
Most adults and kids get way more protein than their daily requirement, but sadly most consume too little fiber, so every gram counts!
1๏ธโฃ 1/2 cup cooked beans- 7g protein and 5g fiber
2๏ธโฃ 2 TBSP peanut butter- 8g protein and 2g fiber
3๏ธโฃ 3 oz tempeh- 16g protein and 7g fiber
4๏ธโฃ 1/2 cup quinoa- 8g protein and 5g fiber
5๏ธโฃ 1 TBSP nutritional yeast- 8g protein and 3g fiber.
These are all foods you could easily have in the same day. If you add up all of the protein in these serving sizes you get 47g protein- that's the same amount as in 7oz steak!!! And BONUS at the same time you get 22g fiber (kids require about 25g per day and adults should hit 30g/day).
Now that's food for thought!! ๐ค๐ค๐ค
