Over the past 20+ years supporting teams and communities across the U.S. and Latin America, I’ve had a front-row seat to one of the most powerful forces in our economy: the Latino community.
I’ve seen the long hours, the entrepreneurship born out of necessity and vision, the families building futures one paycheck at a time.
I’ve also seen the barriers—doors that open more slowly, opportunities that come with more conditions, and the constant pressure to do more with less.
That’s why the latest findings from UnidosUS and UCLA hit so hard.
Latinos contribute over $4.1 trillion to the U.S. economy and drive workforce and business growth, yet the average Latino household holds only 22 cents for every dollar of wealth held by white households.
The contributions are massive. The wealth-building pathways are not.
For me, this isn’t just data—it’s the lived reality of colleagues, friends, and communities I’ve worked alongside for two decades.
Their economic power is undeniable. Their potential is even greater.
Understanding this gap isn’t just about equity. It’s about the future strength of the U.S. economy.

2026 Prediction: AI will redefine how we build talent—not just how we hire it.
70% of leaders say AI is critical to HR’s success (Workday). But there’s a growing disconnect:
• 46% of employers believe their teams have the right skills
• Employee confidence dropped from 59% (2024) to 49% (2025) (TriNet)
So what’s driving the gap?
It comes down to development. Employees who feel supported in learning are:
✔️ 6x more likely to recommend their company
✔️ 3.3x more productive (ADP)
The takeaway: traditional L&D isn’t enough anymore.
Forward-thinking HR leaders are embedding skill-building into daily workflows—making learning continuous, measurable, and tied directly to business outcomes.
The real shift?
From hiring for skills → to building capabilities from within
What this looks like in action:
• Treat L&D as a core business function
• Align development with retention and performance
• Focus on critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability
• Train using real-world scenarios to reinforce human judgment alongside AI
Organizations that invest in their people will be the ones that actually scale AI successfully.
Question: Is your organization still hiring for skills—or actively building them?
