Wolves Call

I took my three year old son to southern Spain alone to find a leather manufacturer. He was not potty trained.

I’d been searching for months. Mexico, the US, everywhere that made sense on paper. Nothing felt right. Not at the level I knew this needed to be. So I just sent a message to someone I’d been following who knew leather better than anyone I’d come across. I didn’t think he’d answer.

He answered. Told me Spain was where I needed to look. Specifically a small town called Ubrique in the south, where some of the world’s most renowned design houses have manufactured for generations and worked hard to keep it a secret.

Coincidentally I was already heading to Spain a few weeks later. We agreed I’d fly down to Ubrique alone at the end of the trip to meet his team in person and see the place for myself.

We flew into Sevilla, stayed the night, and the next morning got into a taxi for an hour and a half through the Andalusian countryside. My son asking a thousand questions. Me staring out the window wondering what I was actually doing there while hoping we were not getting kidnapped. I genuinely did not know what the hell I was doing. I kept thinking, who does this.
