The Visual Mode

In the past two weeks of streams I showed a snippet of my workflow using Midjourney to quickly generate a conceptual design in 3d.

Granted, a real project requires much more research and due diligence. However, these design sprints are substantially helping me develop a style of my own.

I’ve always been more technical and production focused, I just follow the brand guide. If I had to design something from scratch I pull myself in a dozen directions and land nowhere. It’s why working off an AI reference image is so fun for me.

It sets off an intention in my head, and when I try to copy the reference I end up somewhere entirely my own.

It’s really interesting and exciting to start having moments in which I finish some creative work and when I ask myself “Is it good enough?”

I answer: “I don’t care. I like it.”

- When we talk about AI tools, the majority of them are not actually “Intelligent.”

- They employ machine learning, meaning there is a process leading to an answer and improves on itself as it is fed more data.

- With Leonardo, I was able to create my own data set from all the plans I’ve created in the past.

- I then fed it linework of a random location, and prompted it to give a “High quality Landscape design site plan.”

I did a livestream yesterday in which I reviewed their new iOS app which launched this past Monday.

It’s been about 18 months since my first AI generated image. In January of 2022, there were only a handful of AI tools out there, mostly withh the prompt to image. Now, not only is my workflow entirely different from what it was back then, but it evolves every month. These past couple of months, I’ve used AI tools in my work more often than the Adobe Suite. In fact, Blender and Adobe only become involved at the final stages.

For those still hesitant in adopting these tools, I’d keep in mind it’s not the technology that should intimidate you. It’s the fact that one person with a few years’ experience in these tools will be able to replace your entire team.

So for a , let’s take a moment to go outside, take a deep breathe, and say goodbye to the past. Make a plan for growing today, tomorrow, and every day after that.
