Semifinalist #2: Jose Bueno, the insider who never applied — until now.
33 years in MDCPS, three separate school turnarounds (C to A, D to A, D to A again), and he’s been Dotres’ Chief of Staff since before Dotres was even hired. Despite being closer to this job than almost anyone, this is his first time actually putting his name in for it.

3 more semifinalist profiles before the board picks finalists July 21.

Tomorrow is the last day of Qualifying to run for Miami-Dade school board — and right now, every even-district seat has zero competition.
An unopposed election isn't really an election. It means no accountability, no debate, and no choice for voters.
Our Miami schools deserve better. Our kids deserve better. Democracy requires more than one name on a ballot.
Qualifying ends tomorrow. If you care about education in our community, consider stepping up — or spread the word to someone who might. 🏫🗳️

Miami-Dade parents — this one is important.
A school board member who spent decades selling EdTech products to schools is now on the board that approves what gets purchased for your kids. He also sits on the Miami Dade College board — entirely appointed by DeSantis — that just stripped your elected school board of oversight over charter schools.
And he’s publicly pushing a charter school consultant with ties to a Christian nationalist organization to become your next Superintendent of Public Schools.
His name is Roberto Alonso. The superintendent candidate is Alex Rizo. And the deadline for the superintendent search is August 2026.
Every claim in this video is sourced and documented. Links to all sources and the superintendent public comment page are in our bio.
