The Strategic Procurement Department (SPD) was recently featured in Community Newspapers, highlighting the Department’s national recognition for innovation and excellence while supporting the delivery of major projects across Miami-Dade County.

SPD was recently honored with the 2026 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute, marking the 20th time Miami-Dade County’s procurement organization has received this prestigious recognition. The Department also earned three 2026 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards for innovative technology initiatives that enhance efficiency, transparency, and public service.

Beyond national recognition, SPD continues to play a vital role in delivering transformational County projects, including the new Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department campus, which will modernize critical detention operations and improve services across the criminal justice system.

These achievements underscore SPD’s commitment to innovation, responsible stewardship of public resources, and strategic procurement practices that strengthen government and deliver lasting value to the community.

Founded in 1968, NPI is a non-profit organization that recognizes and promotes excellence in public procurement through education, professional development, and networking. The AEP Award is a national recognition presented annually to agencies that demonstrate excellence in procurement through innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership, and e-procurement.

This is the 20th time that SPD has been honored with the AEP Award from NPI. This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to achieving excellence in public procurement and delivering exceptional value and outstanding service to our stakeholders.

We are excited to share that the Miami-Dade County Strategic Procurement Department (SPD) is a recipient of the following three 2026 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo); SPD’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tool for Competitive Selection Committees, SPD’s AI Assistant for Procurement, and it’s the County’s Vendor Compliance/Due Diligence Process Transformation.
The AI Tool for Competitive Selection Committees modernizes and streamlines the formation of competitive selection committees by replacing a manual process with an automated application that uses artificial intelligence to match project scopes with the expertise of County employees. The tool improves efficiency, accuracy, transparency, and compliance while reducing administrative burden and supporting the creation of well-qualified evaluation committees.
Launched in August 2025, SPD’s AI Assistant for Procurement provides SPD staff with a centralized, conversational resource for procurement guidance. Using curated internal procedures, templates, training materials, and policies, the AI Assistant delivers consistent, policy-aligned answers, reduces time spent searching for information, improves decision-making, and increases staff capacity for higher-value work.
SPD also transformed the County’s Vendor Compliance/Due Diligence Process by implementing innovative automation and centralized tracking solutions. The initiative reduced processing time by approximately 50 percent, eliminated redundant work across departments, and enhanced the County’s ability to conduct business with capable vendors. The new process combines a standardized compliance template, automated screenshot functionality, and a SharePoint-based tracking system integrated with Microsoft Power Automate to improve efficiency, accountability, and compliance.
These award-winning initiatives reflect SPD’s ongoing commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and delivering efficient, transparent, and effective procurement services for Miami-Dade County.
