In my little world, Tuesday is fake Monday.

I’m a good business owner Sunday night. I plan my Monday and get in the mindset for the week. I literally map out my day down to the specific emails I need to send, my outfit, and what I’ll cook for dinner. All that work and my Mondays no longer suck! But my Tuesdays usually do. I’m always filled with those intrusive thoughts, the inability to focus, and the desire to chill instead of work. Tuesday is fake Monday. The Monday struggles hit me a day late.

UNTIL I remembered the pomodoro method! It’s so simple and keeps me really on task when Tuesdays (or Wednesdays…or Fridays….) feel like Monday. Here’s how I do it:
- I pick my top 3 goals
- I choose my most important one and map it into the smaller steps needed
- I set a timer for 25 minutes and work work work work work (those Apple Watch users there’s a pomodoro app with vibrations and the cutest bear illustrations)
- When the timer goes off I stop what I’m doing, stand up and set another timer for 5 minutes and chill.
- I sent another 25-minute timer…and work more.
- RINSE & REPEAT
The pomodoro method also recommends that you stop after 4 chunks of work (2 hours) for a long 30-minute rest.

This is my favorite productivity tip and I’ve used it for years. Do you have a favorite productivity tip?

Act as if what you do makes a difference, it does. - William James

When we’re in the trenches of developing our businesses, goal setting, and our to-do lists are never-ending….
When we’re still not getting enough traction, still not achieving like we want to…

It might start to feel like “why even bother” and that it doesn’t really matter.

But, William James is here to tell you (and I’m here to remind you) that you need to treat every task like it is important. It all matters. You’re not only building a business, you’re building relationships, and a future - and it’ll all be worth it.

(Oh you made it this far, well buckle up for some nerdy talk 🤓)
For those of you who are new here, I’m not just a designer! I also have my degree in psychology and implement that in all the designs dote does. So, it’s time for a bit of a history lesson:

Who exactly was William James?
William James is the Father of American Psychology. His primary focus was on functional psychology. Functional psychology is all about our behavior and why we do certain things. It works to understand human thinking.

This is one of my favorite things to talk about and I love just how much this specific type of psychology is intimately involved with branding and (bonus points if you can guess this) user experience.

Another cool fact about William James is his little brother was jammed novelist Hey James (Portrait of a Lady, The Ambassadors). Makes you wonder if deep thinking is genetic.

What ways can you improve the experience surrounding your company or brand? Sound off in the comments below!

Happy Friday and keep making those little differences in the world around you!

Fresh new visual mood board for Forest and Beyond. I love taking the highlights of the mood board and turning them into a video that builds to a logo!

This brand was so fun to build. Inspired by Yosemite Park, that call to adventure hikers feel, and family fun - Forest & Beyond was built! It's an outdoor store providing folks with everything they need to go on an adventure - whether it be hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting, camping or literally anything "under the sun".

Stay tuned tomorrow for a look at the brandboard for this amazing project including a full description of the brand strategy for Forest & Beyond.
