Children aren’t just listening to our words—they’re slowly turning them into their own.
Developmental psychologists call this internalization: the process by which a caregiver’s voice gradually becomes a child’s inner voice.
That’s why the words we repeat matter so much.
💛 I created BELU, an AI bedtime story app that helps parents intentionally nurture their child’s inner voice through personalized stories based on the emotion they’re feeling and the character trait they want to build.

Toy Story 5 reminded me of something every parent should hear.
The tablet wasn’t the real villain.
The heartbreaking moment was when Bonnie started believing she had to become someone else to belong.
When children experience rejection, bullying, or cyberbullying, they’re often not just hurting from what happened—they’re quietly building beliefs about themselves.
That’s why the questions we ask in those moments matter so much.

The last few minutes before your child falls asleep may be shaping the voice they’ll carry for the rest of their life.
This is exactly why I built BELU.
Here are the 5 bedtime phrases Dr. Jonny shares that every child deserves to hear:
✨ 1. “I love you no matter what.”
Not because of what you did today.
Not because you were “good.”
Simply because you exist.
✨ 2. “You are safe.”
A calm nervous system learns better, sleeps better, and grows into a more resilient adult.
✨ 3. “I’m proud of who you are.”
Not just what you accomplished today.
Who they are matters more than what they achieve.
✨ 4. “Tomorrow is a new day.”
Help them leave mistakes behind instead of carrying them into tomorrow.
✨ 5. “I’ll always come back to you.”
Children who feel securely connected build confidence from the inside out.
This is the science behind why BELU stories always end with intentional messages that strengthen a child’s inner voice.

🎥 Inspired by Dr Jonny excellent explanation of the neuroscience of bedtime. I added my perspective as the founder of BELU because this research is the reason I built the app.

Explained further below👇
One of the biggest mistakes parents make is trying to correct a child whose nervous system is still in survival mode.
💾Save this so you can come back for it.
When children become emotionally overwhelmed, the part of the brain responsible for reasoning, impulse control, and problem-solving becomes much less accessible.
That means something important:
❌ They aren’t ignoring you because they don’t respect you.
❌ They aren’t refusing to listen just to be difficult.
They’re often in a state where they literally can’t process correction the way we hope they will.
That’s why the order matters.
💜 1. Connect
Before teaching, let your child feel emotionally safe.
😮💨 2. Calm
Help their nervous system settle. A calm brain learns. A dysregulated brain defends.
🗣️ 3. Correct
Now your child is actually able to hear what you’re trying to teach.
This isn’t about “gentle parenting.”
It’s about understanding how children’s brains actually learn.
✨ Save this for the next hard parenting moment.

I’m building a library of evidence-based parenting tools that help children grow up believing in themselves.

⚠️SAVE this for when they doubt themselves…
Your child’s brain isn’t just learning math, reading, or soccer.
It’s constantly collecting evidence about who they believe they are.
Psychologists call this confirmation bias: once children start believing something about themselves (“I’m smart,” “I’m bad at this,” “I’m brave,” “I always mess up”), their brains naturally start looking for more evidence to support that belief.
The beautiful part?
That process works in both directions.
Every small interaction is another opportunity to help your child build a stronger inner voice. 💜
✨ Save this for the next time your child doubts themselves.
What belief do you hope your child grows up having about themselves?

🧠 This is how it works…
They believe what their brain learns to look for.
Psychologists call this confirmation bias.
Once a child starts believing, “I’m not good at math,” or “I’m not brave,” their brain begins collecting evidence to prove that belief true—even when it isn’t.
The good news?
As parents, we can help them build a different story.
Because confidence isn’t something children are born with.
It’s something they practice believing.
💜 That’s exactly why I built BELU—to help parents strengthen their child’s inner voice one bedtime at a time.

⚠️ 👇Psychologists identified this…
Your child isn’t more vulnerable to bullying because they’re “too nice.”
Often, it’s because they haven’t learned to trust their own voice.
When children constantly hear:
• “Just ignore it.”
• “Don’t make a big deal.”
• “Just be nice.”
…they can start believing that keeping other people comfortable matters more than listening to their own instincts.
Instead, teach them these 3 things:
1️⃣ “What happened wasn’t okay.”
2️⃣ “Your feelings are important.”
3️⃣ “Let’s practice what you could say next time.”
Confidence isn’t teaching children to never be afraid.
It’s teaching them to trust themselves while they’re afraid.
💜 This is exactly why I created BELU.
Every bedtime story is designed to strengthen a child’s inner voice, emotional resilience, and confidence—one night at a time.
