Each week we will spotlight one of the innovative startups participating in Cohort 7. To give every company a chance to shine, we’ll be introducing them in alphabetical order over the coming weeks. In this edition, we’re excited to introduce iCatch.

What inspired you to start this company?
Mariah and I both have worked in the fisheries world for a combined 25+ years, primarily to conduct scientific research that helps inform fisheries management and the conservation of fish species. We both greatly value doing research to help needs and problems on the ground. Given this background, we’ve generally been aware of basic information needs in the fisheries space, though we always learn something new from people who work in different contexts and with different fishery species. We’ve known about challenges with fish species identification for a long time, and as soon as the science caught up to the problem, we decided to start developing a solution.
