Some children need help making friends

Making friends isn't always easy for many kids. They sometimes act like someone else or do strange things to be liked. Remind your child that the key to making friends is to "Be yourself." Then, suggest keeping a journal. In it, your child can practice expressing feelings and ideas before sharing them with others. You can also talk to your elementary schooler about your own childhood friendships. And if shyness is a barrier, look for ways for your child to meet other shy children.

Daily Tips for Families Many children don't quite understand how to make friends. They try hard. They act like another person. They do strange things to fit in with the popular crowd. Some are afraid and shy, and do nothing at all.

🐯✈️ Tiger Summer Fun Series: Ms. Alesha Warner Explores South Korea! 🇰🇷

This summer, Ms. Alesha Warner had the incredible opportunity to travel to South Korea on behalf of Ajin alongside fellow educators from neighboring districts. Her journey was filled with rich history, cultural experiences, and unforgettable sights!

Ms. Alesha explored Hwangridan-gil, a vibrant area known for its charming shops, cafés, and unique blend of historic and modern Korea. She visited Cheomseongdae, one of the oldest astronomical observatories in East Asia, and enjoyed local treats like Bingsu (Korean shaved ice) and the famous 10 Won Bread, a warm, golden pastry filled with gooey mozzarella cheese and shaped like a Korean coin.

Her travels also included visits to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Bulguksa Temple and Hahoe Village, where she experienced traditional Korean village life and even tried historic activities such as grinding grain and traditional ironing.

In Seoul, Ms. Warner toured Gyeongbokgung Palace and learned about Korea’s rich history near the Blue House. She also visited Bukchon Hanok Village, where traditional Korean homes stand beautifully alongside the modern city skyline.

One of the most powerful experiences of the trip was visiting Imjingak Park, the Freedom Bridge, and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). There, she gained a deeper understanding of Korea’s complex history, the division between North and South Korea, and the enduring hope for peace and reunification. She even descended into one of the underground tunnels discovered beneath the border.

What an amazing opportunity to learn, grow, and bring a global perspective back to our Tigers! We are proud of Ms. Alesha for representing our school and community abroad.

Maximize the positive effects of reading at home

Reading at home boosts academic achievement. To make it a positive experience, look for high-interest books at the library with your child and refresh your supply often. Then, read them together. If your elementary schooler struggles with reading, take turns reading sentences. Pause from time to time and ask thought-provoking questions, like "What do you think will happen next?" Your child is more likely to be interested in reading if you set an example by reading often yourself.
