🌟 National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week 🌟

This week, National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder week, the Police Department proudly recognizes our PATH (Police Assisted Therapeutic Help) Program and the incredible work of our co-response and community response teams. Our PATH team is the bridge between law enforcement and community support, bringing expertise, empathy, and resources where they’re needed most.

The PATH Program provides a strong and compassionate response to the behavioral health needs in our community. Our Crisis Intervention Team, made up of Officer Gina Scanlon, patrol shift officers, and clinician Krystal, responds directly to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, offering calm, care, and connection in difficult moments. Our Community Response Team, led by clinician Theo and peer specialist Michelle, extends that care through outreach, education, and ongoing support for our neighbors. Both teams work closely with community partners to extend their service and connect community members with the resources and help that best fit their needs and situation.

Co-responders like Krystal, Theo, and Michelle embody qualities of compassion, collaboration, and resourcefulness. They bring calm in chaos, hope in hardship, and build trust between police and the community. By pairing officers with clinicians and peer specialists, we are able to support individuals in crisis with the right care at the right time, strengthen our officers with professional mental health expertise, and ensure a safer, healthier community for all.

PATH started off 2025 in a big way! January saw 49 referrals to PATH. PATH CIT provided 36 services to 34 individuals, and PATH CRT provided 72 services and conducted 96 follow-ups! Additionally, the outpatient RAPID program provided 15 therapy sessions and to date has donated over $2,700 in FREE therapy services to the citizens of Methuen! We are grateful to D.J. Beauregard for Mayor and City of Methuen, Massachusetts - Government for the support of our federal grants so we can continue to bring free mental health services to the citizens of Methuen.

Each month the PATH Program will be sharing some of its exciting outcomes from the exciting work being done in City of Methuen, Massachusetts - Government

In December the PATH program received 43 referrals, 21 to our Crisis Intervention Team, 22 to our NEW Community Response Team, 11 of which were direct response to a Methuen Police Department request for assistance. Our short-term therapy service (RAPID) offered 8 sessions, and through its clinicians provided $746 in donated therapy services to Methuen residents. The PATH program was able to help avoid costs associated with unnecessary emergency room visits estimated at $16,000 this month!
