The search and rescue community mourns the profound loss of AST2 Tyler Jaggers, Rescue Swimmer #1087, from USCG Air Station Astoria.

At Priority 1 Air Rescue, we are deeply saddened by the news of Tyler's passing on March 5, 2026, following critical injuries sustained during a heroic medical evacuation mission on February 27. Responding to a distress call from a commercial vessel approximately 120 nautical miles west of Cape Flattery, Washington, Tyler deployed into harm's way to aid a mariner suffering a stroke. His selfless actions in the face of extreme conditions exemplified the highest standards of courage and service, earning him posthumous recognition with the Distinguished Flying Cross and meritorious advancement to AST2.

Though we did not have the privilege of knowing Tyler personally, we have long admired and supported the extraordinary men and women of the USCG aviation community who live by the motto "So Others May Live." As a training organization dedicated to preparing and equipping aircrews for the demanding realities of search and rescue operations, we witness daily the dedication, skill, and sacrifice required in these roles. Tyler's ultimate sacrifice reminds us all of the profound risks borne by those who answer the call in the harshest environments.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go to Tyler's family, his shipmates at Air Station Astoria, the broader USCG family, and the entire rescue swimmer brotherhood during this time of immense grief. We stand in solidarity with you, ready to continue supporting the mission that Tyler so bravely embodied.

Rest in peace, AST2 Tyler Jaggers. Your legacy of heroism will endure, inspiring future generations of rescuers. Fair winds and following seas. 🪽🇺🇸
