Don’t be a statistic... Be prepared and be safe out there

Planning a hike into Grand Canyon today or this week? Be warned, it will be H O T! The high for today is 89°F (32°C), and it only gets hotter the farther down you go—reaching 96°F (36°C) at Indian Garden and 109°F (43°C) at Phantom Ranch! And it's only going to get hotter as the week goes on, with estimated high temperatures at Phantom Ranch reaching 112°F (44°C) on Monday and 113°F (45°C) on Tuesday. And those are shade temperatures!

Hiking in these temperatures isn't just uncomfortable, it can be deadly. Most trails into Grand Canyon have no access to water, and many trails such as the South Kaibab offer little to no protection from the sun. So don't become a statistic! Plan your hike, know the environment, know your limitations, and if you meet a ranger or PSAR volunteer on the trail, listen to their advice. They know what's up!
