More than 5,000 school counselors from across the country will gather in New Orleans this July for the 2026 ASCA Annual Conference.
School counseling is constantly evolving â and the best way to continue serving students is to continue learning.
The ASCA Annual Conference brings together school counseling professionals to explore best practices, discover new resources, earn professional development hours, and connect with colleagues who understand the challenges and opportunities of this work.
Whether you're attending in person or participating virtually, conferences like this remind us that we're part of something bigger than our individual schools and districts.
Every new idea, strategy, and connection has the potential to impact the students we serve.

For more than 25 years, Heather Webb has helped Arizona students see whatâs possible for their futures and helped school counselors and CTE leaders strengthen the pathways to get them there.
Her career has taken her from teaching 8th graders to high school counseling, and she is just completing her term as President of ACTEAZ. Throughout it all, Heatherâs career has been rooted in supporting students through career exploration, academic planning, and real-world readiness.
Her story is also a reminder of the critical role school counselors play in helping students connect their interests, strengths, and goals to meaningful postsecondary pathways.
âArizona desperately needs skilled, trained professionals who are certified and career ready,â Heather shared. âSchool counselors play a pivotal role in supporting students with career discovery, high school course selection, and career or college pathway planning.â
Thank you, Heather, for being a champion for students, CTE programs, and the counseling profession across Arizona. đ

You may have heard the term âfree range parentingââŚ
but what does that actually mean for studentsâand schools?
At its core, itâs about giving kids age-appropriate independence so they can build confidence, problem-solving skills, and resilience.
Not no rules.
Not no supervision.
But guided independence.
As school counselors, we see the impact of this every day.
Students grow when theyâre given space to:
âď¸ Make small decisions on their own
âď¸ Try, fail, and try again
âď¸ Build confidence through real-life experiences
And we also play a role in helping families find the balance:
â Supporting independence while still keeping safety and structure in place
Because the goal isnât to step back completelyâ
itâs to step back just enough for students to step forward.
