Farewell to a Local Legend: CW Theater in West Melbourne

It’s the end of an era. West Melbourne’s CW Theater will be closing its doors this summer after more than two decades of movie magic.

Originally opened as Cinema World in 2000, it was the first theater in Brevard County to introduce tiered stadium-style seating—a major upgrade from the traditional setups we were used to. Coming from the Philly area, I was blown away by how beautiful this theater was. Compared to the rundown Regal cinemas I’d seen, Cinemaworld felt like a dream.

Over the years, they continued to upgrade and evolve, always offering a top-tier experience. Sadly, I read that on July 3rd, the company filed for bankruptcy. It’s heartbreaking—and truly a sign of the times.

For me, this theater was more than just a place to catch a film. It was where we premiered the original Bocas movie on October 10th, 2019—our first screening before going on to show it in other venues around the county. That moment meant the world to me.
