Tizekker for Meridian Library Trustee

I am a Meridian native! I have nine children, and we all love and use the library. I am running to expand library services and branches and:

- Financial Transparency - Approx. 20% of our property taxes go to the library budget. As tax payers, we need to know exactly how this money is being spent. Transparent.idaho.gov is a site where the state and municipalities can show every individual expenditure. The MLD has not been transparent in how its individual budget items have been spent. Residents have told me their FOIA requests have been ignored. i am not implying monies have been misspent, we just don't know how our tax dollars are being spent.

- Empowering Parents- The Library Trustees have said that parents are in charge of knowing what their kids read and that the staff of the MLD have no place in policing this. As a parent, I have many tools available to me that help me make decisions for my kids learning. One of these tools is a rating system on media. Video games are rated M, T, E and movies are R, PG-13 ect. I use an Airbnb and there are google ratings. None of these things prevent me from using them, or prevent them from being used, they just give me a tool as a parent. I don't have to play every level of an "M" game to know if my child should play it, just trust the rating system. Parent need a system to determine if a form of media meets their individual standards.
- Eliminate extremism - Shutting down meetings from public comment and calling police on citizens who want to express their opinion, is not the answer. Calling to dissolve the library district is not the answer. Obviously, the current Trustees are not listening and we need current Trustees who listen and have real solutions that are right for are community.
- Build more libraries - The library has an excellent and diverse array of services. As meridian grows what is the plan to serve south Meridian and future growth.
