When the author of Hebrews quotes Genesis 2:2 — "God rested on the seventh day from all His works" — he is making a point: the rest God offers is not a reward for finishing well. It goes back to creation itself. It is woven into the fabric of how God designed life. We were made to rest. Ignoring that is not faithfulness — it is a refusal of something God built into us.

Hebrews 4:11 contains a striking tension: "Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest." Diligent. Rest is something you strive to enter — not because it is earned, but because unbelief is what keeps us out. The wilderness generation did not fail because they worked too hard. They failed because they refused to trust. Rest and faith are not opposites. They are the same movement.
